Craft Room

Since my parents are staying a few days with me my Dad being the wonderful person that he is helped to set up some of my IKEA furniture. If you ever have purchased IKEA furniture you know how much of a PAIN it is to assemble it. You get instructions with pictures. No words/etc. Just pictures. Nothing like this A part goes into this A spot. NOTHING....

My Dad having tons of years putting together furniture/etc. He wasn't in the business but having 5 kids you seem to go through a lot of furniture/fixing/etc.

He also is better then me at sewing. I can leave him in the dust with hand stitching but get a sewing machine in there and I fail. He gave me a few lessons today and explained I did not break my sewing machine...yet.

Now on to pictures of my new crafting area. Oh! I want to puff out my chest here and state I did build my own PC. You work IT and you get made fun of at the corner from the other IT folks if you don't have at least one PC you built.

On to the pictures:

You can see the new dark brown IKEA bookcase/desk and the white IKEA draw space. Perfect for scrap booking materials/etc. My Mom has been non stop on telling me how my furniture doesn't match. I really don't care....

NOTE: My furniture matches in all my other rooms. My Mom wanted me to say that in case someone thinks I am tacky...

I still have a few things in plastic bins/etc. I am thinking about getting a tiny table to put my sewing machine on. Then I don't have to move it on and off the desk I have now. Will be looking at Target/Walmart I'm sure.

This is where my girls live. My guinea pigs for those of you starching your heads. My Mom again suggested I have a lovely table cloth to set off the hay and poop everywhere. Oh! and the cloth says Iowa State which I found funny. I didn't graduated college from there either.

Last picture! WHY YES I have tons of figures/toys/plushies. I love supporting my follow indie makers so I buy from them most of the time. I have a whole bookcase with urban vinyl toys that I will have to post soon. They are all in another bookcase I got from IKEA as well.

Cross Stitch Ideas

Working on some cross stitch designs. on Twitpic

It's funny because I never use to carrying a sketch pad with me and now I do. I'm not the world's greatest artist but it helps me to write down ideas. I forget them later on so this is my alternative. It's easier this way for me to transfer it on cloth to cross-stitch it too.

Also, graph paper is great. I use that to work out lettering/etc. It's cheap too so you can always have a supply. :D

My sister likes to tease me about not having a pattern to work off of. I just see it in my head really and go from there. I don't use software/etc. to work out the colors.

I think the person that inspired me the most to get back into cross stitching was Sublime Stitching.

I started when I was about 7 years old. I use to go to a after school day care at my school and one of the options of things to do was sitting with a Hispanic lady that taught us cross-stitch. I do believe my Mom still has some of my pieces from back then. I worked at it up until about high school and then it wasn't "cool". Only a few people and family knew I did this. I have no idea WHY I thought crafting wasn't "cool". I was a stupid kid.

Later on I picked it up again after seeing Sublime Stitching. I could go out of the "loop" and make my own patterns. If Sublime Stitching could do it then I could. From then I had a few conversations with friends that suggested I sell my work and here I am. Pretty much in a nutshell.

I also have two women in my family that are great crafters: My Mom and Sister. When we get together there is a mess of craft items somewhere.

Now I leave you with a cute picture of one of my guinea pigs Ethie. My sweet girl has been with me for about 4 years now.

Oh! I will be setting up my furniture from IKEA this weekend. Hopefully I will have pictures of my new crafting room.

Sneak Peek

Here is a little preview on my next project. Going to show the love for Dinosaurs and the color Pink! ;D

I'm starting to create my own drawing patterns for cross-stitch. It has been suggested to me to but together kits and sell them on Etsy. I honestly don't want to do that right now.

NOTE: I apologize for the dark photo. I usually take all my sneak peek cross stitch projects with my IPhone. Usually when I list my items there is tons of light/etc.

Etsy Update!!

Here are some items I added to my Etsy Shop:

Check out more --> HERE

I also had to deal with my own little drama. One of my packages got ripped open at my mailbox and the contents stolen. I went ahead and filed with the state police. Will be calling the post office on Monday and getting my own P.O. Box. It sickens me I can't trust my own mail in front of my home.

I love the USPS click n ship but will not be doing that anymore. Will have to take my items personally to the post office and mail them off that way.

FAQ

FAQ
As titled this post is for FAQs I often get about my work and commissions. All these questions have to do with my cross-stitching and embriodery work.

Are you taking commissions?
Yes, There are rare times I will say no because I am working on too many at once. I can then give you a date when I can start on another.

How do I contact you?

Please email me at RainbowSweetStitch. Please include information like a picture of what you want, the size of the piece, and any other information.

Can you make a cross-stitch piece out of this digital picture?
It will depend on the picture, just email it to me and I can let you know. That goes the same for any type of font you want in the piece.

How much does a commission cost?
It depends on how detailed the piece is, the size, and how many hours I have to put into the piece.
Examples:
- This Zelda piece could fit into a 12x14 frame but the detail and hours put into the cross-stitch would make the price over $500.
- This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle design would be about $40.
- This ice cream embriodery design would be about $60.

Can you copy this cross-stitch piece from etsy?
I will NOT copy anyone's already hard work they put into a cross-stitch piece. Contact that person and ask them if you are able to buy that piece.
