Crafty Update.

Just wanted to do a update before the month of March is over. I can't believe it's almost over! I'm excited to start planting my garden and go to a few craft fairs in my area. I live in a townhouse at the moment so my garden is kept in pots on my back porch.

I finally got my Rubber Ducky Tissue cozy done for my boyfriend. He has a love of rubber duckies so his bathroom is that theme. Men have no idea about tissues so it's more or less something for me. Don't tell him that...

This is a better photo of the crocheted bow I made for my parent's dog, Pepper. I'm going to attach a clip to it so it stays better on her collar. I'll be working on smaller ones for my guinea pigs next.

I ended up giving this to my boyfriend. I was practicing how to make crocheted hearts and thought he would like it. Cheesy but he still liked it.

I'm also excited to see that cherry blossoms are starting to bloom! I'm so excited to go to The Cherry Blossom festival in DC this weekend. I have been wanting to go since I moved to the east coast about 4 years ago. Somehow, I have "tricked" my boyfriend into taking me.

Life Update

I am back home again! It was nice catching up with my one brother that I have not seen for almost 5 years now. He is in the Air Force and his family is usually stationed over seas.

I also went to a few fabic and yarn shops. I'll more then likely have a picture of my findings later. I was excited over the things I got. I didn't get much done on the crafting side but that's alright.

While staying with my parents I made my Caramel Apple Pecan pie. It went over well with my parents and brother. I put a ton of pecans on the top because we are a nut family.

I also crocheted up a bow for my parent's dog, Pepper. This was pretty much the only thing I got done while back at home. I did take the bow home with me to attach a clip to the other side so it stays better on her collar. It also gave me ideas on how to make my guinea pigs little bows.

My parents dogs Pepper and Salty. They love to come and snuggle in whatever seat you just got up from. I raised both of them from puppies when I lived at home. I remember days of working with them on potty training and hand feeding them food.

I also went to the local comic shop. I knew it was a place for me when I saw the Batman sign. I also left with a few Batman graphic novels.

I took this picture a day before I left home. My guinea pigs had to stay at home with a baby sitter so I missed them while I was gone.

Craft Swap

What I created for my craft swap with Holly on facebook! A Rainbow Cake Tissue Box Cozy. I was close to actually keeping this for myself but figured since I liked it so much so would Holly. She did from the message I got from her. I created this from the pattern in Twinkie-Chan's book - Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies. This is what Holly made for me. I love the strawberry painting! I have a love of strawberries too. The Ulala button is amazing! You can find amazing items like this in her Etsy Shop.

Over at Wild Olive's blog she is creating a few posts about embroidery basics. I would suggest anyone take a look even if you have been doing it for years. You might just learn something new! Also, I find it great for people just starting out. She should be making a few posts so it's something to keep watching for.

Time to add another project to my growing list. The Soot Sprites appear in both Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. Both movies were created by Studio Ghibli and I'm a huge fan of. I would love to have these little guys in my home. Pattern can be found at Confessions of a Drop Spindle Newbie's blog.

Angry Birds.

(photo from thinkgeek.com)
I'm sure everyone by now knows of the game Angry Birds. I was excited to see that plush forms of the birds and pigs were starting to be created as well. I looked around different websites and in stores. The plush forms are not cheap at all. Then Lisa a friend of mine suggested making my own and was nice enough to provide a link with patterns. YES!

Obsessively Stitching's blog has provided a few patterns on how to create your very own angry birds. I think this might be my first project to work on when I get back home again. More then likely I will be making two sets. My parents also love Angry Birds and will want there own. I do want to make one of the birds huge so I can cuddle up to it at night like the ones sold on Think Geek.

One of my favorite crafters MyPaperCrane has also created her own version of Angry Birds. Which gives me a bunch of ideas. I'm thinking of crocheting little bows for the pigs from the Valentine's Day version of Angry Birds.

Scraf Project.

Wanted to show off the scarf I finished for my friend! Rikku's scarf from Final Fantasy X-2. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I had no pattern so I pretty much looked at whatever pictures I could find online of Rikku. Thank you once again google search. I also had a good support system since my knitting/crochet teacher also works with me so any questions I had she could easily answer. I honestly can't think of how many hours it took me. I did a little crochet on the edges to help with the curling too. Just a couple of rows of single crochet. Another thing I learned from my teacher is how to stop the scarf from curling with a steam iron.

I don't know if I will have the time to post in the next couple of weeks. I am going back home to Illinois! I can't wait to spend time with my family again and the chance to see my two best friends from high school. I already have figured out what projects I will be taking with me to work on. Also, figuring out what I can take on a plane. You never know what one can do with a cross-stitch needle on a plane.... I can't wait to visit the fabric/craft shops out there too.

Oh! I forgot to post about this. A couple of weekends ago my boyfriend and I went to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History in DC. While there we saw The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef. It was amazing! I would suggest anyone go and see it. You can tell the love and time that was spent on every little piece of crochet.

Knitting and Cookies.

I forgot to post these pictures! At the end of January this year my boyfriend and I went into town for the Ice Fest that was going on. Walking down a side street I noticed something colorful hanging on a building. As I got closer I was excited to see someone had knitted street art for the festival. I'm not sure who did this but was happy to see it.

I just finished up my knitting project and my craft swap has been mailed so I will be posting pictures of both soon. Doing the craft swap made me realize how much I missed it so I will be looking for more ways to do craft swaps. If anyone would be interested let me know.

I also had another baking adventure! I made some BACON Chocolate Chip cookies. They are pretty good and I can't wait to get other people to try them.
